I've Built an AI Clone That Works!
I’ll be honest with you. I got very antsy while writing this article because I’m worried about what you might think of me when you read that I’m making an AI clone.
Would you think of me as a person who contributes to the amount of AI slop out there?
I hope not.
Because I hate AI slop as well — I don’t ever want to put out slop.
I’m sharing this news with you because I have built an AI clone that produces good enough content.
At the very least, good enough to wow me, and also wow Geoff Graham, who responded to my message with:
WHOA. How did you put that together?
AI can actually produce good results
I’m gonna prove it to you by showing you real examples of what the AI has created instead of just talking about what it can do.
For these examples, I tried drafting responses to three different Reddit posts. As you know, Reddit is incredibly punishing, so the responses have to be good.
And the responses came back way better than what I expected — or could have written myself — for the amount of energy and time spent.
First Example
This is the entire context of the post:
Here’s the response my AI came back with:
I was blown away because it literally used all the things that I have created in my body of work — including my articles and the Unorthodox Tailwind course.
It also reads like I’m talking to a human.
And it almost says the same things I might say when I’m in a really good mood, and when I have infinite patience to create a response to Reddit, which is rare, to be honest.
Second Example
Here’s the second example. This person has been using Tailwind and React for a year, but they struggle with understanding CSS layouts.
Here’s the response my AI created:
This did not blow me away as much as the previous one, but it holds some of my communication patterns, like:
- I don’t tell people to start from scratch
- I say they should learn what they need
- I also give them what to focus on if I’m in a good mood
The nice thing here is that I didn’t write anything about height: 100% in my course materials because I don’t see a point to educate people about a wrong mental model. But the AI picked up on that and gave general knowledge in a helpful way.
It also contains some details of how I think about the box model — like whether margin or padding should depend on the parent or the content.
Overall, I’d give this a B+ grade for awesomeness.
Third Example
This is a long one.
Here, the person who posted this mentioned that they have used Tailwind for a while but they went back to CSS. They were surprised with changes in CSS and they recommend others give it a try.
How would you respond to a message like this?
My default response would be no response… which is why I don’t communicate much in forums.
But the AI came back with a response that goes beyond my expectations. It talks about what could be helpful to this person and it gives enough information to people who may be reading the comments.
It also included the parts where I say Tailwind is incredible for layouts.
Next Steps
I have a lot of ideas in my head.
One of them is enhancing the output with links to articles and courses — so people who are interested can read more or even purchase my courses! We can also check the subreddit’s rules to decide whether to include links or simply mention the courses.
Here’s an example of that using the first response above:
I’m also thinking of expanding the clone to work beyond Reddit, so I can reply better to people on other channels, while having space, time, and energy to make great stuff at the same time!
Finally, I’m building an app to discover messages from various channels and respond to them easily. I’ll talk about this another day. (The UI is too messy right now).
AI can enable useful conversations
I think this kind of AI-assisted conversation is a contribution — both to businesses and to prospects and customers.
It’s rare.
And also generous.
More than anything, I am excited to see how AI can support our ability to make such conversations happen!
Want the AI Clone?
I’m still figuring out how to make this available. I might build clones with people. I might sell the whole system. Or I might do both.
If you read this and thought “I want one” — for yourself, for your business, or even to build for a client — let me know and tell me what you’d use it for.
That’ll help me figure out how to put this in your hands.
